I'll try to answer some of your
more frequent questions, on this page, but please feel free to
visit the
Bermuda
Forum to find an
answer, or post a question to be answered if it isn't covered here. Q:
Why are airfare costs so high?
A:
That's a question for the major airlines to answer. For
some reason, they charge more for you to get here than to go to
many other destinations. Contrary to opinion, the Bermuda
Government has no control over this and are
constantly working with the airlines to provide
more reasonable rates.
Q:
Should we worry about the Bermuda
Triangle? A:
Don't let the silly myths and superstitions
frighten you away from our beautiful island.
There's nothing to worry about!
Q:
What's the weather like in Bermuda?
A:
The
Bermuda
Weather
section can answer that for you. I've
compiled daily statistics, since 1996, and have
even included an actual picture for every day of
the year since January 1998.
Q:
Does Bermuda have a dress code?
A:
Our visitors dress mostly casual, but there are
laws restricting nudity and certain revealing
clothing. We ask that you don't walk the
streets in a bathing suit, for instance - save that
for the beach, the pool or out on the boat.
Casual wear is fine for most restaurants, but a few
require smart casual dress in the
evening.
Q:
What currency does Bermuda use?
A:
We have our own Bermuda dollar, but U.S. dollars are
accepted everywhere at par value. U.S. travellers cheques and all major credit cards can
also be used.
Q:
Can we get brochures and other information to
help plan our Bermuda vacation?
A:
Call 1-800-BERMUDA to request a personal package of
useful information from the Bermuda Tourism
Department's North American offices, or
visit their website
for further details. Brochures are available for
download there, as well.
Q:
How can we travel around Bermuda?
A:
Our public transportation system is excellent and
reasonable, however, there are other options
available to visitors. Check out our
Transportation
section for more information.
Q:
Are Bermuda's beaches really pink?
A:
Of course they are! The crushed coral and
shells, which have mixed in with the sand over the
years, provide the lovely pink tint which helps to
make our beaches so beautiful.
Q:
Can we get internet access while in
Bermuda? A:
Many of the hotels now have facilities for their
guests, which includes internet access. There
are also a couple of Internet Cafes available in
Hamilton and St. George's.
Q:
Should we be worried about hurricanes?
A:
Bermuda is no more at risk of hurricanes than the
southeast coast of the United States - actually, we seem to be
less at risk that those areas. This
should not be a major concern when deciding to
vacation here, however.
Q:
What is the legal drinking age in
Bermuda? A:
You must be at least 18 years of age and be able to produce
proper identification, when
requested.
Q:
What is the gratuity policy in
Bermuda? A:
In most establishments, the standard 15% will be
added to your bill, for convenience, and is shown as
such. With regard to tipping for other
services, our practice is consistent with those in
other countries around the world.
Q:
What time zone is Bermuda in?
A:
We are on Atlantic time, which is one hour ahead of
eastern standard time. For instance, if it is
1pm in New York, it will be 2pm in
Bermuda.
Q:
Is it easy to get married in Bermuda?
A:
Lots of people take their marriage vows on our
island, but there are certain procedures which must
be followed. Check out the section on
island
weddings
for the further details.
Q:
Can I get a job in Bermuda?
A:
In order to work in Bermuda, a person must have a
valid work permit, which is issued by the
Immigration Department for a term of six
years. Bermudians are always the first
considered for a job opening and, only if no
Bermudian can be found to fill the position, can a
company hire a foreign worker.
Q:
Is it easy to get to our hotel from the
airport? A:
